Welcome to 8th Grade Science!
Go to FOSSweb.com for all resources.

This year students will be studying four FOSS modules.
The first module is Chemical Interactions. Students will investigate the structure and properties of matter and learn how to identify a chemical reaction.
Then students move on to investigate energy transfer and conservation and will use this knowledge to design and build a thermos.
The second module is Heredity and Adaptation. In this module students explore the fossil record and discover how scientists have used comparative anatomy to confirm a common ancestor. Next they study inheritance and why the there is variation among species. They will come to understand how traits are passed down from generation to generation. Students ultimately come to understand the Theory of Evolution.
The third module Planetary Science, helps students understand the Earth's place in the Universe and the patterns that arise due to its position. Students will also reinforce their understanding of Earth's systems and how humans have impacted those systems.
Finally, students apply their understanding of gravity in the module, Gravity and Kinetic Energy in their investigation of that force. They will combine that understanding with concepts related to energy conservation.

Students be given all the materials they need to be successful this year. It is suggested they get a binder to hold all these materials. In addition, all notes and homework can be found on Google Classroom (see Home page for link).
Also new this year, FOSS has a new app that has the Student Resource book available to download.
